10th-inning single dooms Gamecocks

HOOVER, Ala. - Conrad Gregor singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning Thursday to give top-seeded Vanderbilt a 4-3 victory over South Carolina in an elimination game at the SEC Tournament.

Tony Kemp led off the inning with a single, and the Commodores (49-8) eventually loaded the bases with one out against three relievers.

The Gamecocks (39-18) had intentionally walked Connor Harrell, who had two hits, before Gregor delivered his second single of the game to drive in Kemp. Vince Conde added two doubles for the Commodores.

Carson Fulmer (2-0) gave up 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 5 over the final 4 1/3 innings for Vanderbilt.

South Carolina starter Jordan Montgomery allowed just 3 unearned runs and stuck out 8 in 7 2/3 innings but didn’t figure into the decision.

LB Dantzler had tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh with a home run - his 15th of the season - after the Commodores opened a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

Harrell singled up the middle to open the second inning, and Gregor followedwit another single. Kyle Smith reached on a throwing error that allowed Harrell and Gregor to score. A lineout by John Norwood drove in Smith to give the Commodores a 3-0 lead.

South Carolina’s Max Schrock singled to right field with one out in the third inning and scored on a fielder’schoice. The Gamecocks cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth when Tanner English doubled with two outs and scored on Schrock’s single.

ALABAMA 7, OLE MISS 5

Mikey White hit a two-run single in the 10th inning as Alabama eliminated Mississippi with a victory.

Alabama (34-25), the No. 7 seed, trailed 3-0 early but rallied for two runsin the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead.

White pulled Alabama to within 3-2 in the fourth inning with a single that drove in Georgia Salem, who also had singled. Chase Vincent tied the game in the fifth inning when he scored on a single by Kyle Overstreet.

The Crimson Tide took a 5-3 lead in the sixth. White reached on a throwing error and scored on Austen Smith’s triple, and Brett Booth’s RBI groundout brought in Smith.

Ole Miss’ Stuart Turner had a two-run single in the seventh inning to tie the game at 5-5 and eventually send it to extra innings.

Overstreet drew a walk to start Alabama’s winning rally in the 10th and moved to third on a double by Ben Moore. White’s single drove in Daniel Cucjen, who pinch-ran for Overtstreet, and Moore.

White finished the day 2 for 5 with 3 RBI to lead the Crimson Tide. Tucker Hawley (5-2) earned the victory with three innings of scoreless relief.

Turner and Will Jamison had two hits each to lead Ole Miss (37-22), the No. 6 seed. Tanner Bailey (4-2) took the loss, giving up two runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

MISSISSIPPI STATE 6, TEXAS A&M 4

Brett Pirtle went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored as No. 5 seed Mississippi State (43-16) eliminated No. 9 seed Texas A&M (32-26).

Adam Frazier went 4 for 5 while driving in 1 run and scoring 2 for the Bulldogs, who outhit Texas A&M 10-6.

Blake Allema went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI for the Aggies.
