The Fort Smith National Historic Site will host a Memorial Day program at 2 p.m. Sunday. Fort Smith Mayor Sandy Sanders, cemetery director Craig LaChance, Col.

Tom Anderson of the 188th Fighter Wing and Deacon John Burns of St. Boniface Catholic Church are expected to speak at the event.

The Color Guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8845 will present the colors, and the River Valley Community Band will play the national anthem. Derek Bolin and Michael Flood of Fort Smith Southside High School will perform taps, and Tery Graves of the Fort Smith Firefighters Pipe and Drum Corps are scheduled to perform “Amazing Grace.”

Precious Tombstones from Yesteryear, Revived! is the subject for a Sunday session of Clayton Conversations at the Clayton House in Fort Smith. The talk is set to start at 2 p.m.

Randy Smith, manager of Van-Alma Edwards Funeral Home, will lead a discussion about his work preserving the headstones of Van Buren’s earliest settlers at Fairview Cemetery.
