MovieStyle: Loud, fast and out of control

This week we’ve got your franchises in MovieStyle — the vroom, vroom, vroom of the Fast and the Furious franchise continues with this sixth entry, returning director Justin Lin and all the usual suspects (Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez), with at least some of the action set in London. And then there’s The Hangover Part III, which allegedly wraps up Todd Phillips’ Wolfpack trilogy. Though those two films may be critic-proof, our Piers Marchant gives it a shot anyway.

Elsewhere, the season’s first (but certainly not last) big 3-D cartoon arrives with Epic, which Dan Lybarger says could have been worse. Better, Lybarger insists, is The Sapphires, a little musical comedy that’s just making its way to the state. And maybe even better than that, if you missed it at last week’s Little Rock Film Festival, is Ain’t In It For My Health, a documentary that allows us a little time in the company of the late Levon Helm. Philip Martin says it “seems designed to give those of us who didn’t know” Helm “a sense of what it was like to spend informal time with him” and that by the end of it “you’ll know what was ordinary … as well as what was extraordinary” about him and “by the end of it, whether you knew him or not, you’ll feel his loss.”
