LakeSmart program set for Thursday

Ozarks Water Watch will host a free LakeSmart program from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Prairie Creek Community Center, 14432 Arkansas 23 East near Rogers.

LakeSmart is a free program to help property owners self-assess their property for excessive erosion and potential impacts on water quality in the Beaver Lake Watershed. Participants will also learn about retaining rainwater.

Hobbs park to host cooking, kayaking

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area near Rogers will host a Dutch oven cooking workshop Saturday and a beginning kayaking class Sunday.

The cooking workshop will be 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and will be taught by the park’s assistant superintendent Jay Schneider. Guests will learn to prepare bread, a main dish and dessert using a Dutch oven.

Participants will share a meal and recipes after the class.

Cost to attend is $40 for the workshop, lunch and a cookbook or $105 for those things plus a six-quart Lodge Dutch oven.

Registration and prepayment are required. The class is limited to 15 participants.

An American Canoe Association instructor will lead the kayak workshop, set for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday. Cost to attend is $50 per person. Participants will learn about paddling in Beaver Lake’s calm waters. Kayaks, paddles and life jackets will be provided.

Space is limited; the class is open to ages 16 and older.

Guests should bring a sack lunch, water and sunscreen.

A series of family-friendly musical sculptures will be installed at the new Eureka Springs Music Park on North Main Street during the May Festival of the Arts. The opening for the park’s interactive sound sculptures is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.

Musician, craftsman and sound engineer Ranaga Fabriarz created the sculptures in collaboration with local artists. The sculptures are a permanent installation at the park.

Local band Trout Fishing in America and students from Clear Springs School are scheduled to perform at the event.
