Icy fruit bars boast milk, juice; Little Debbie gets makeover

Fruttare is a line of frozen fruit bars that is making its way into Arkansas. There are two versions:

Fruit and Milk bars made with milk and real fruit. They come in strawberry, coconut, banana and peach flavors.

Fruit and Juice bars made with real fruit and juice. They come in strawberry, orange, mango and lime flavors.

I’ve tried them and I’ll have to say they are delicious.

Look for Fruttare products at Wal-Mart, Kroger and some Target stores, where they sell for about $4.50 a box.

As the weather heats up, ice cream companies bombard me with information on new items. Edy’s/Dreyer’s is no exception. West of the Rocky Mountains and in Texas they use the Dreyer’s name and elsewhere in the country they use Edy’s, so we have Edy’s here.

The company recently added two new flavors that are available in Grand and Slow Churned versions:

German Chocolate Cake Spectacular! made with chocolate ice cream with a caramel coconut swirl and brownie pieces.

Sunny Salted Caramel Pretzel made with vanilla ice cream with a salted caramel swirl and pretzel pieces.

Also making a return run is Slow Churned Take the Cake, which was restored bya vote of fans. It features a yellow cake flavored light ice cream with a frosting swirl and multicolored sprinkles. It’s hard to beat the combination of cake and ice cream.

Edy’s products are sold at many major stores, where a 1.5-quart container costs about $6.50.

Little Debbie has new look. The very first logo debuted in 1960 with the launch of the company. It was redesigned in 1985, and the new one is still based on the original mascot, Debbie McKee Fowler. She’s an executive vice president at McKee Foods, the company that produces Little Debbie products.

So what actually changed? They darkened her auburn hair and made it less curly. They updated her plaid shirt and added a rounded Peter Pan collar. She’s still wearing the straw hat, but they removed the hat string that was draped under her chin. But you can bet that nothing has changed about the quality of Little Debbie products.Check out their Facebook page to see the logo change.

They’ve also added some new stuff too. First are the Cream Cheese Streusel Cakes, which are square and have a cream cheese filling. The cakes are sold in boxes of eight, and pricing will vary depending on where you shop, but the price on the box is $3.09.

They’ve also started selling individually wrapped Danish pastries in Cheese, Berries & Cheese, and Apple Cinnamon flavors. These should sell for about $1.29 each.
