Suspect arrested in case of shooting

Deputies track Green Forest man, charge him with attempted murder

A Green Forest man wanted on a charge of attempted murder in connection with a shooting last week was arrested Sunday by police in his hometown.

Deputies found Joe Anthony Gutierrez, 25, at a location in Boone County, but he was allowed to drive to Green Forest to surrender, said Carroll County Sheriff Bob Grudek.

“Boone County deputies followed him to the Green Forest Police Department, where he turned himself in in the parking lot,” Grudek said.

Guiterrez was arrested in connection with a shooting early Wednesday morning at the Red-X convenience store in Alpena. Two shots were fired through the window of the store and narrowly missed a woman,Grudek said.

Guiterrez and the woman had argued Tuesday evening, according to a news release. Then they went for a drive, stopping for gas at the Red-X, which is at the intersection of U.S. 412 and U.S. 62.

The woman went into the store, and Gutierrez purportedly fired the shots through the window, according to the release.

The shooting occurred around 12:50 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators tracked Guiterrez to the location in Boone County, Grudek said.

“With the Internet and Google and GPS and cell phones, my investigator has been following him ever since that incident,” Grudek said.

Bail hadn’t been set for Guiterrez as of midday Monday, the sheriff said.
