Sales Tax Revenue Up In Three Cities, Down In One

Springdale sales tax revenue soared this month with Rogers and Fayetteville also showing increases over last year, while Bentonville's numbers dipped slightly.

Comparisons are based on collection from the same month in the previous year. Each city, with the exception of Bella Vista, collects a 2 percent sales tax. One percent of the tax is devoted to repaying bonds; the other 1 percent goes into each city's general fund and is available for operation. For the purpose of this report, NWA Media tracks the 1 percent going into general funds.

Sales tax revenue for May is based on March sales collected in April.

Springdale received $899,737 this month compared to $821,040 for the same period last year, an increase of $78,696, or 9.5 percent.

"This will help us quite a bit," said Wyman Morgan, Springdale's director of administration and financial services.

Rogers sales tax increase by 5 percent over the same period last year, with Fayetteville up 2.6 percent and Bentonville dropping by a slim 0.02 percent.
