Residents Report Rash Of Vehicle Damage Monday

FAYETTEVILLE — At least 30 Fayetteville residents woke up Monday to damaged vehicles, and, in some cases, stolen purses and electronics.

The Fayetteville Police Department by midday Monday had received nearly three dozen reports of similar crimes, mostly on the city’s west end, Dan Montgomery, a police spokesman, said.

Montgomery, said reports came from residents of The Links apartments at Wedington Drive and Rupple Road; the Clabber Creek subdivision off North Salem Road; and the Hill Place apartments at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Hill Avenue.

Some residents reported broken windows and slashed tires. Others said items inside their cars had been stolen.

“Whatever is in the vehicle is what they’re taking,” Montgomery said.

He said Monday afternoon no suspects had been identified and no arrests had been made.

He advised people to lock their doors and remove all valuables from their cars.

“People need to be aware of what’s going on outdoors by their vehicle,” he said.
