Hobbs To Host Weekend Events

Jay Schneider, assistant superintendent of Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area, will teach a workshop on the basics of Dutch oven cooking from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the park’s Visitor Center.

Participants will learn to prepare bread, a main dish and a dessert, according to a news release.

Cost is $40 and includes lunch and a Dutch oven 101 cookbook; or $105, which includes a Lodge 6-quart Dutch oven.

The workshop is limited to 15 participants. Registration and prepayment are required.

On Sunday, the park will host a kayak class taught by an instructor for the American Canoe Association. Participants will learn all aspects of paddling while exploring a calm area of Beaver Lake. Recreational kayaks, paddles and lifejackets will be provided.

Space is limited and open to those 16 years and older. Take a sack lunch, drinking water, sunscreen and dress for the weather.

Class is $50 person and will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration and prepayment are required.
