Two Arrested In Drive-By Shooting Case

ROGERS — Rogers police arrested two men Saturday after an early morning drive-by shooting in the area of North Third and Persimmon streets that sent another man to Mercy Hospital for emergency surgery.

Mario Torres, 18, and James Carranza, 21, both of Rogers, were being held Saturday in the Benton County Jail awaiting a bond hearing. The two were arrested and jailed in connection with charge of attempted capital murder, a class A felony.

According to information from the Rogers Police Department, the shooting was reported around 12:11 a.m. Police said initial reports were a man had been shot multiple times by an unknown person or persons who had fired from a vehicle. The man was taken to Mercy Hospital in a private vehicle before police arrived on the scene. The suspects also fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

Officer Keith Foster, the Rogers Police Department public information officer, identified the victim as Jose Quiroz Jr., 23, of Rogers. Foster said Quiroz had been taken into emergency surgery and remained hospitalized Saturday afternoon in recovery. According to information from the police, Quiroz was shot five to seven times in the torso with a .40-caliber handgun.

Van Stone, Benton County prosecuting attorney, said a bond hearing for Torres and Carranza would probably be held today.
