FAYETTEVILLE — Police in Texas arrested a man wanted in Fayetteville since December in connection with sexual crimes with a child, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

William Rose, 54, of 1110 Dayton Road in Midland, Texas, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on Saturday in connection with a felony charge of engaging children in sexually explicit conduct for use in visual or print medium and felony distributing, possessing or viewing of matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

David Engle, Fayetteville resident, called police in August after his new cellphone started receiving sexually explicit messages, according to a court affidavit. Engle’s old phone was stolen by a 12-year-old boy, police said.

Engle told police he learned the messages came from Rose who was attempting to communicate with a 16-year-old girl, police said. Interviews with the teenager and Rose revealed the two exchanged explicit messages through text messages, police said.

Rose told police he knew the girl was 16 years old, according to the affidavit. Rose was being held Saturday in the Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
