Village to offer

water aerobics

Bella Vista Village’s Kingsdale Pool will offer several summer options in water aerobics for people of all ages and skill levels.

Classes include: Morning Water Exercise Class with instructor Rose Scott from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, beginning June 3 and continuing through the summer months. Punchcards are $60 for 12 classes.

Punchcards, which are required for all outdoor pool water exercise classes, can be purchased at Riordan Hall, 3 Riordan Drive. Additionally, all class participants are required to have the Property Owners Association’s 2013 Outdoor Pool Pass. Pool passes may be purchased at Riordan Hall or at the village’s outdoor pools when they open forthe season on Friday. To obtain a pool pass, one must be a property owner and have either a valid POA-issued photo identification card or a paper membership card.

Ventris Trail’s End

slates fireworks

The Ventris Trail’s End Resort’s fireworks show will be July 5 and is free to the public. The show is to be seen by boat only, just south of marker 8 on Beaver Lake. It starts around 8 p.m. with music to listen to while waiting for dark.

Chamber plans photo contest

Photographers, amateur and professional, from across Northwest Arkansas will have the opportunity to win more than $2,000 in prizes during the Springdale Chamber of Commerce’s 2013 “Why I Love Springdale” photo contest. Open to photographers 16 and older who live in Washington, Benton, Madison and Carroll counties, the contest has no admission fee and allows for an unlimited number of entries.

Thanks to a sponsorship from Bedford Camera and Video, the prize for first place will include a Sony Digital SLR camera valued at $500. The contest will also award prizes for second and third place.

The contest’s official rules, online registration form, frequently asked questions and model release form can be found at the chamber’s website, www.Springdale.com. An independent panel of judges will select winners based on composition, image impact, creativity and technical merit.

The contest begins May 15 and concludes July 8.

Photographs submitted will help the chamber promote Springdale to business and leisure visitors.

Hospice plans

Circle of Life Hospice invites Northwest Arkansas residents to join them for the “Ribbons of Memories” memorial service for families, friends and caregivers who have lost a loved one.

The Ribbons of Memories memorial services at Circle of Life will provide an opportunity to remember, honor and celebrate the memory of a loved one.

Both events will feature music, poetry and words of comfort from their chaplains. The memorial events are open to all members of the Northwest Arkansas community.

Individuals are invited to write a message on a ribbon which will be placed on the Ribbons of Memories Maypole. Ribbons are available in the lobbies of the Bentonville and Springdale locations and will be available until the end of May.

LakeSmart set May 23

A free LakeSmart program will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Prairie Creek Community Center, 14432 E. Arkansas 12 near Rogers.

LakeSmart is a free program to guide participants through a self-assessment to protect property from excessive erosion, to learn options about retaining rainwater and to assess potential impacts on water quality in the Beaver Lake Watershed. LakeSmart is coordinated by Ozarks Water Watch and sponsored by Beaver Water District, the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Association for Beaver Lake Environment.

Village to host Paddle In Paradise

Bella Vista Village’s fifth annual Paddle in Paradise will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 8 on Lake Avalon and give locals the opportunity to try kayaks. June 15 is reserved as a rain date.

Beginners and experienced paddlers are encouraged to bring their families and friends to enjoy the day learning about the sport of paddling.

Those who want to kayak should be 12 years of age or older. All participants must wear life jackets. Participants are encouraged to bring their own life jackets and wear shoes that can get wet.

Nonmembers can paddle in the kayaks provided by the vendors. Private, unregistered kayaks are not allowed on the lake.

The event is sponsored by the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association, Lewis and Clark Outfitters, Ozark Mountain Trading Co. and the Loch Lomond Marina. Door prizes will be provided.

Grilled hamburgers and brats prepared by the Bella Vista Sunrise Rotary Club will be available for purchase. Proceeds will benefitlocal charities.

Guests who want to park at the lake should enter through the lake’s park, off Camden Road. Attendees are urged to carpool, due to limited parking.

Volunteers are needed to help set up, work the kayak registration booth and cleanup following the event.

Kayak workshop at Hobbs

Learn to kayak from an instructor for the American Canoe Association during a workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 26 at Hobbs State Park near Rogers.

Participants will learn all aspects of paddling while exploring a calm area of Beaver Lake. Recreational kayaks, paddles, and lifejackets will be provided.

Space is limited, and the class is open to 16 years and older. Bring a sack lunch, drinking water, sunscreen and dress for the weather.

Cost is $50 per person.

set for Tuesday

The Property Owners Association in Bella Vista is hosting a health presentation on metabolic research at noon Tuesday.

Dr. Ryan Hueter is a physician at Northwest Medical Plaza at Sugar Creek and has conducted extensive research in obesity and diabetes at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

The presentation willbe one hour long and be at the Metfield Clubhouse, 3 Euston Road in Bella Vista.

Lunch and the presentation are $5.
