Fayetteville stage is stable for touring play War Horse

The touring production of the Tony Award-winning Broadway show War Horse (adapted by Nick Stafford from Michael Morpurgo’s novel of the same name, also the inspiration for Steven Spielberg’s Best Picture nominee) will be onstage at 7 p.m. Wednesday, 2 and 7 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. May 26 at Walton Arts Center, 495 W. Dickson St., Fayetteville.

The show won Tonys for best play, best direction, and best scenic, lighting and sound design, plus a special Tony for Handspring Puppet Company, which created the life-size horse puppets.

Murry’s Magnolias

Six Southern women dress hair and discuss men in Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias, opening Tuesday and running through June 15 at Murry’s Dinner Playhouse, 6323 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock.

Candyce Hinkle reprises the role of Ouiser, with Alanna Hamill Newton as Truvy, Emily Wold as Annelle, Fran Austin as Clairee, Natalie Canerday as M’Lynn and Caroline Pierce as her daughter, Shelby.

Rogers auditions

Rogers Little Theater will hold auditions for The King and I (music by Richard Rodgers, book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II) at 7 p.m. June 10-11 at the Victory Theater, 116 S. Kids’ movie camp

The T Tauri Movie Camp is accepting registrations through July 2 for the ninth annual summer youth program, which offers two- to four-day workshops related to video production to aspiring filmmakers 18 and younger:

“Acting on Camera,” 9 a.m .-4 p.m. July 15-17, at the Landers Theater Building, 332 E. Main St., Batesville, open to students entering grades 5-12. Tuition is $75, which includes all equipment and supplies. (Students provide their lunch and beverages.)

“Claymation,” 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 22-23, University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville, 2005 White Drive, Batesville, open to students entering grades 4-10. Tuition, $75, includes all equipment and supplies.

“Script to Screen,” a narrative filmmaking workshop, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 24-26 and 9 a.m.-noon July 27 at UACCB, open to students entering grades 6-12. Students work in teams of six, each with an adult instructor, to create short narrative films, from concept to closing credits. Tuition: $100.

Tuition for each camp includes an official T Tauri T-shirt, a DVD featuring all of the movies made at this year’s camp, a “wrap party” cook-out and a finale screening that showcases all of the workshop films and acting exercises. Art competition

May 31 is the deadline for artists to submit works to the visual arts committee of the South Arkansas Arts Center for its 2013 Juried Art Competition, July 8-Aug. 23 at the center, 110 E. Fifth St., El Dorado.

The competition is open to all U.S. artists working in two or three dimensions, 18 or older, in all styles and media. All pieces must be original and have been completed in the last two years; artwork completed under classroom supervision and/or reproduced from work by other artists or published material is not acceptable. David Houston, director of the newly created Bo Bartlett Center in Columbus, Ga,, will be the juror; the center will announce his selections June 11.
