Christian Juawon Wright, 20, of North Little Rock was sentenced Friday in Crawford County Circuit Court to 20 years in prison for the death of his 2 ½-month-old son from what doctors determined was shaken baby syndrome, according to Prosecuting Attorney Marc McCune.

Wright pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the Jan. 10, 2012, death of his son, Jayden.

According to the sheriff’s office, Wright was taking care of Jayden the morning of Jan. 10 after taking Jayden’s mother, Tiffany Adamson, 18, to class in Van Buren.

Officials first encountered Wright that morning when he flagged down an Arkansas Highway Patrol officeron U.S. 64, east of Van Buren, because Jayden was unconscious.

The officer and others were able to restore the infant’s breathing before he was transported to a hospital in Van Buren. He was then transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, where he was pronounced dead the next morning.

Suspicion immediately fell on Wright, because he told authorities at least three different stories about what had happened to his son, according to sheriff’s reports.

The Arkansas Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that Jayden suffered bleeding on the brain and that his death was caused by closed head injuries that were not self-inflicted or accidental, an arrest affidavit said.
