BARLING — The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department says it's moving its District 4 administrative offices in Fort Smith to Barling.
The agency says the offices will open at the new location at Chaffee Crossing on Friday.
Construction work began on the district headquarters complex in 2007. The agency says the headquarters cost about $13.5 million and includes maintenance headquarters, facilities for inspection crews and an engineer's office.
The previous facility in Fort Smith has served as District 4 headquarters since 1959. District 4 includes Crawford, Franklin, Logan, Polk, Scott, Sebastian and Washington counties.
