Let Dennis deal with the menace

The Worm has turned up again.

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman, known as The Worm in his playing days, is tapping his friendship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to ask for the release of a Korean-American man sentenced to 15 years of hard labor.

“I’m calling on the Supreme Leader of North Korea, or as I call him ‘Kim’, to do me a solid and cut Kenneth Bae loose,” Rodman said on Twitter.

Rodman visited North Korea in February and sat next to Kim at an exhibition basketball game. The trip, which came during a time of high tension between Washington and Pyongyang, wasn’t endorsed by the U.S. State Department.

Bae is a tour operator who was arrested in North Korea in November. He was sentenced last week by the North’s Supreme Court for unspecified “hostile acts” against the state. North Korea said Sunday that the 44-year-oldWashington state man entered the country with a disguised identity.

Other Americans detained in North Korea since 2009 eventually were deported or released, some after trips to Pyongyang by former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.

Maybe there will be a future in politics for Rodman if Bae is released.

Secretary of State Worm, perhaps?

Do I hear four?

Getting arrested is never on the to-do list.

For Titus Young, being arrested twice in the same day isn’t an ideal daily double.

The former Detroit Lions wide receiver was arrested twice in a span of 15 hours by the Moreno Valley (Calif.) Police Department on Sunday, according to Paula Pasch of the Oakland (Mich.) Press.

Pasch reported that Young followed up his arrest for suspicion of DUI later Sunday by being arrested for attempting to steal his own car from police custody at a tow yard in Southern California.

Young, a second-round pick by the Lions in 2011 was spotted jumping over a fence looking for his impounded Mustang and was subsequently charged with burglary.

Young’s two arrests in the same day put him near Cliff Harris status.

Harris, a former NFL defensive back who was cut by the New York Jets on April 30, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana the day before in New Jersey. He then went back home to Oregon where he was arrested again May 3 for domestic harassment, according to Portland television station KGW.

Harris completed the trifecta Tuesday when he was arrested for failure to appear in court in connection with the second arrest, according to Fox 12 in Oregon.

Harris missed the scheduled court appearance after he was pulled over for speeding in a no-passing zone on his way to court.

The officer would not let Harris drive when it was discovered he didn’t have a driver’s license.

Harris eventually found someone to drive him to the courthouse, but because he was late the judge issued a bench warrant and had him arrested on the spot.

Time to fly

Derek Ernst’s driving paid off when he won the Wells Fargo Championship in a playoff Sunday.

Ernst, a 22-year-old rookie, was driving a rental car toward Athens, Ga., to play a Web.com event. He was No. 1,207 in the world ranking, having played only eight PGA Tour events and having made only two cuts this year, which led to being the No. 4 alternate.

When he received the call as the fourth alternate at Quail Hollow, he drove on to Athens to return his rental car and avoid a $1,000 drop-off fee. He then picked up another one and headed to Charlotte.

Rushing around to return rental cars shouldn’t be as much of a problem for Ernst after earning $1.2 million with his victory.

“I’m flying,” he said.
