BASEBALL REGIONALS 4A-SOUTH AT ASHDOWN ARKADELPHIA 9, HAMBURG 2 John Franklin Matros hammered out three hits and was the winning pitcher as the Badgers defeated the Lions. Alex Harold had two hits for Hamburg.

ASHDOWN 7, MONTICELLO 1 Austin Cross scattered seven hits as the Panthers defeated the Billies. Jake Alexander had a double, a single and drove in two runs as Ashdown broke open a scoreless game with a five-run fourth inning. Tyler Olson and Cross each had two singles for Ashdown. Beau Rush led Monticello with two singles.

CENTRAL ARKANSAS CHRISTIAN 5, CROSSETT 4 Jack Thomas was 3 for 3 at the plate and drove in the tie-breaking run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning as the Mustangs outlasted the Eagles to qualify for the state tournament. Turner McDaniel started the game-winning rally with a double and a steal of third. Thomas, who was also the winning pitcher, followed with his sacrifice fly. Dylan Huckaby tripled to drive in a run and Landon Hearnes also had a sacrifice fly for the Mustangs.

STAR CITY 7, MALVERN 6 Austin Capps had a double and a single and the Bulldogs pushed across the winning run with a squeeze play in the bottom of the seventh. Zach House was the winning pitcher.

3A REGION 2 AT GLEN ROSE HARDING ACADEMY 15, PERRYVILLE 10 Glover Helpenstill drove in five runs on four hits as the Wildcats outslugged the Mustangs. Will Francis and Austin Calhoun each had three hits for Harding Academy, which scored 12 runs in the first two innings. Calhoun and Paul Fullerton had two RBI apiece for Harding Academy.

3A REGION 4 AT HORATIO FORDYCE 6, FOUKE 3 Winning pitcher Cote Johnson smacked a two-run home run in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie and the Redbugs downed the Panthers. Johnson finished with a three-hitter. Braden Chambers had a double and two singles to lead the Redbugs’ six hit attack. Jacob Garrett had a double and single for Fouke.

GENOA CENTRAL 11, CAMDEN HARMONY GROVE 0 Cale Ridling pitched a complete-game shutout and the defending state champion Dragons belted three home runs in a victory over the Hornets. All of the home runs came in the third inning. Garrett McKamie had a three run shot, Nick Purifoy added a two-run home run and Hunter Fletcher hit the third home run of the inning.

McGEHEE 2, HORATIO 1 Jared Carter’s two-run home run in the fifth inning was the only hit the Owls collected off of Horatio’s Josh Prowant, but it was all McGehee needed for the victory. Jordan Izzo drove in the Lions’ lone run with a double in the sixth inning.

SMACKOVER 12, PRESCOTT 1 Logan Clark struck out 18 and allowed only one hit as the Buckaroos cruised to victory over the Curley Wolves. Reid Malone belted a three-run home run for Smackover in the sixth inning.

2A EAST REGION AT POYEN HAZEN 6, CUTTER MORNING STAR 3 Gage Johnson had a two-run single and the Hornets made the most of five hits in collecting a victory over the Eagles. Hazen turned four double plays and took advantage of four Cutter Morning Star errors. Hunter Ingle worked five innings of relief to pick up the victory. He allowed six hits and gave up two earned runs. Hazen also picked up runs on a ground out from Chase Van Houten and a double by Cody Kee. Cutter Morning Star’s Cody Machen had three of his team’s nine hits while Andrew Blocker drove in a run with a single.

2A SOUTH REGION AT DIERKS JUNCTION CITY 3, GURDON 1 Parker Hammett out dueled Tyler Burns to send the Dragons into today’s semifinals. Hammett struck out eight and held Gurdon scoreless until the sixth inning. Junction City took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single by Keegan Hanry and added two more runs in the fifth on a bases-loaded error. Burns struck out 10 for the Go-Devils.

PARKERS CHAPEL 9, FOREMAN 3 John Tyson drove in three runs and Reagan Cates collected three hits as the Trojans posted a victory over the Gators. Will Jones scattered five hits in picking up the victory and he helped his own cause with a run-scoring double. Tyson belted a two-run double to highlight the Trojans’ four-run first inning. He also had a run-scoring single in a four-run third inning.
