Series will feature film about cosmos

FORT SMITH - The Just-Peace Film Series will present Journey of the Universe at 7:15 p.m. Monday at St. Scholastica Monastery, 1301 S. Albert Pike Ave.

The film examines the human connection to the cosmos and highlights current challenges to the survival of species and ecosystems. The Emmy Award-winning documentary was co-written by Brian Thomas Swimme and Mary Evelyn Tucker. Swimme is a professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco and author of The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos. Tucker is a senior lecturer and research scholar at Yale University in the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, the Divinity School, the Departmentof Religious Studies and the Center for Bioethics.

Summer music set

at Magic Springs

HOT SPRINGS - Magic Springs Water and Theme Park will host “Celebrate the Word” concerts throughout the summer. The series features contemporary Christian music artists, as well as nationally known speakers.

The series begins June 14 with Dove Award-winning band Building 429. Grammy Award-winner Toby McKeehan, better known as Toby-Mac, will perform June 15.

Best-selling author Todd Burpo of Heaven Is for Real Ministries will speak July 19. Burpo’s book, Heaven Is for Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven, tells the story of his son Colton’s near-death experience when he was 4 years old. The evening will also include a performance by the band Read You and Me.

MercyMe, one of the most popular Christian bands in the nation, will perform July 20. The Dove Award-winning band first gained mainstream recognition with the single “I Can Only Imagine.” The night will also include performances by Citizen Way and Big Daddy Weave.

Australian musician and songwriter Peter Furler, best known as former lead singer of Newsboys, will be featured Aug. 9. The series will conclude with Needtobreathe on Aug. 10.

Season passes or general admission tickets are required to attend the concerts at Timberwood Amphitheater. Free seating is available on thelawn on a first-come firstserved basis.
