SPRINGDALE — A Springdale man was arrested in connection with a felony charge of aggravated assault after his wife told police he had repeatedly punched her in the face and choked her. The woman also said he kicked her 3-year-old son, after the boy tried to stop the attack.

At 9:02 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a domestic disturbance call at 20000 Fawn Road. The woman told police her husband, John Calhoun, 31, assaulted her and then ran into the woods after she called the police, according to an arrest report.

The woman told police Calhoun punched her in the face and knocked her out of a chair. She said her husband choked her until she struggled to breathe.

The report stated the woman’s 3-year-old son began hitting her husband and said, “No, Daddy.” Calhoun then kicked the boy across the room, according to the report.

The woman said she was able to get her cellphone out of her pocket and call 911, and her husband ran into the woods.

When police responded, they went to the woods and announced they had a police dog on scene and would release it if Calhoun didn’t come out. Calhoun came out of the woods, was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center.

Calhoun also faces felony charges of domestic battery in the third degree and endangering the welfare of a minor in the third degree. A bond was not set Sunday.

According to the report, the woman and her son were checked by emergency medical services and found to be OK.
