Clinton School Team Places 2nd In Contest

A team of students from the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service placed second in the nation Saturday in the finals of Policy Solutions Challenge USA, a competition among U.S. schools of public policy, public affairs and public administration.

The Clinton School team was made up of students Mara D’Amico of Grand Rapids, Mich., Angela Bukenya of Kampala, Uganda, Christine Sumner of Shreveport and Jillian Underwood of Topeka, Kan. They had won the South Region competition in February to reach the finals,which were held Friday and Saturday at the American University School of Public Policy in Washington, D.C.

The Robert M. LaFollette School of Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin won first place and the Taubman Center for Public Policy and American Institutions at Brown University finished third.

Eight universities across the nation competed in the finals.

The finals competition required student teams to develop innovative solutions to policy issues.

The topic of this year’s challenge was Responses to Childhood Obesity in the U.S.
