Saturday Marks First Spring Cleanup

Thursday, March 21, 2013

FAYETTEVILLE — The first of four spring bulky waste cleanups is scheduled Saturday.

Residents can dispose of furniture, large appliances, carpet, drywall and other large items for free from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at two locations: Owl Creek School, 375 N. Rupple Road, and Holcomb Elementary School, 2900 N. Salem Road.

Residents are asked to bring a recent copy of their water bill to prove where they live.

Household hazardous waste, such as paint, batteries, cleaning chemicals, automotive fluids, tires, pesticides and herbicides, will not be accepted Saturday. That material can be taken to Washington County’s special waste collection site, 2615 Brink Drive, during regular business hours.

Medical waste, electronic waste, brush, leaves and grass clippings will not be accepted either. Yard waste disposal is available to residents at the curb or at the city’s compost facility, 1708 S. Armstrong Ave.

Three other bulky waste cleanups are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays this spring.

Free paper shredding services will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 at World Gym, 2035 N. College Ave.
