Rotary donates to honor Savage

The Rotary Club of Rogers recently donated $288 to the Rogers Library Foundation in honor of the late Howard H. “Hal” Savage, a longtime member of the club and supporter of the library.

Savage, 80, died Nov. 18.

He served 20 years as secretary of the Rotary Club of Rogers and spent seven years as a member of the Rogers Public Library Foundation Board, including one term as president.

Chase Foundation sponsors ‘Walk’

Ozark Guidance would like to thank the Chase Foundation for sponsoring the third annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes… Sale 2013. The Chase Foundation donated $1,000 to the Jan. 26 event at Arvest Ballpark and has supported the event since it began three years ago.

The event for mental wellness raised more than $103,000 with in-kind donations, sponsorships and shoe sales.

Gifts help support National Cemetery

The Regional National Cemetery Improvement Corporation recently received donations of $500 each from the Fayetteville Rotary Club and the “Bo’s Project” group.

The Fayetteville Rotary Club consists of business and community leaders who support activities beneficial to the area.

Bo’s Project was begun by Jannie Bibb to honor her late son, Sgt. 1st Class Bo Swearingen, who served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division for 12 years and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. Swearingen and his wife were killed in an automobile accident in 2010.

The Regional National Cemetery Improvement Corporation is an all volunteer, 501c3 group whose sole purpose is to purchase land adjacent to the Fayetteville National Cemetery, clear the land and then donate it to the Veterans Administration so that the cemetery will have sufficient land to continue to bury veterans and their families.

Cancer Support Home gets grant

Washington Regional Cancer Support Home recently received a $10,000 Local Choice Grant from the Internal Audit Department of Walmart to provide funding for two existing services for cancer patients in the area.

The donation will allow for an on-site counseling program to be available for individuals with a cancer diagnosis and their family members. In addition the funding will support the ongoing Clay 4 Cancer program in partnership with the Community Creative Center in Fayetteville.

J.B. Hunt donates truck to charity

The Salvation Army of Arkansas and Oklahoma is once again very grateful to J.B. Hunt Transport Services. They recently donated a 26-foot straight truck to be used during response efforts in times of disaster.

Additionally, the truck is identified as an emergency disaster services vehicle.

In 2011, J.B. Hunt Transport Services donated a 26-foot straight truck to transport donated items to and from The Salvation Army’s warehouse in Fayetteville and nearby Family Stores.
