St. Patrick fetes green, gaudy, loud

Though a day early, all things Irish celebrated in rowdy tradition

Members of the New York City Fire Department’s Emerald Society Pipes and Drums march Saturday along Fifth Avenue in the city’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Crowds cheered and bagpipes bellowed as New York City’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade kicked off Saturday, and people with a fondness for anything Irish began a weekend of festivities from the Louisiana bayou to Dublin.
