School choice on legislators’ minds

As appeals court weighs law, 8 bills filed to govern student transfers

Lawmakers are considering several bills to modify a state law that allows students to choose which school districts to attend. A federal lawsuit over racial restrictions in the law is pending before the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Gearhart, 2 in unit at UA go way back

Chancellor G. David Gearhart hired Brad Choate (shown) in 1990 as an associate vice president at Pennsylvania State University, where they worked together for five years.
