Public welcome

at Lenten retreat

FORT SMITH - The public is welcome to experience the Triduum (Holy Thursday through Easter) with the sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery, 1301 S. Albert Pike Ave. Attendees will spend the days in silence and participate in liturgy of the hours and Eucharist.

The retreat begins with orientation at 2 p.m. March 28 and concludes with an Easter brunch March 31. Cost is $165. Registration is available online at stscho.org or by calling (479) 783-1135.

Grocery Giveaway

FORT SMITH - Evangel Temple Assembly of God will have its 22nd annual Grocery Giveaway at 10 a.m. Sunday in the church’s gymnasium. Doors will open at 9.

The tradition began as a way to help hungry residents when food assistance isn’t as available as during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The church will give away 500 bags of groceriesfilled with enough nonperishable items to feed a family of four for a week. Recipients will receive items such as spaghetti sauce, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, soup, vegetables, crackers, cereal and snacks.

Service features

Gregorian Schola

FAYETTEVILLE - St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will have an Ancient Roots service at 7 p.m. Tuesdays during Lent. The service features chant, periods of silence and the breaking of bread for Eucharist. The Gregorian Schola, led by Richard Lee, performs Gregorian chant during the service, which also includes time for silence and prayer.
