Attempted Murder Alleged in Weekend Shooting

SPRINGDALE — A Springdale man was arrested Thursday in connection with attempted murder.

Police arrested Marcos Mendoza-Catalan, 33, of 1966 Garnett Road in connection with a shooting that happened Saturday, leaving another Springdale man with a wounded leg.

The victim, identified as Antonio Jimenez, originally told police he was shot when someone attempted to rob him while he sat in his vehicle. Police later determined Mendoza-Catalan shot Jimenez at Mendoza-Catalan’s home on Garnett Street, according to a news release.

Mendoza-Catalan shot Jimenez once in the leg, and Jimenez knocked the gun away as Mendoza-Catalan attempted to shoot him in the head, according to police. Jimenez fled the scene. Emergency personnel found him in his car outside another home and took him to a hospital.

Police said the incident stemmed from allegations of infidelity. The men and Mendoza-Catalan’s wife lived in the same house.

Mendoza-Catalan was in the Washington County Jail without bond Thursday.
