Warrant service, standoff, arrest

A man was arrested Thursday after a warrant service turned into a standoff involving the Benton County SWAT team.

A deputy was serving a warrant on Mark Swieter, 53, in connection with domestic abuse in the third degree, false imprisonment and interference with an emergency communication, said Lt. Randy Allsup of the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

Swieter ran inside the house at 9181 Stony Hollow Road, east of Rogers, and said he wouldn't come out alive, Allsup said.

The standoff lasted almost three hours. It ended just before 7 p.m. when the SWAT team entered the house and found Swieter in a second-floor bedroom with a shotgun, Allsup said. There were no injuries.

Swieter's wife had obtained a protection order in connection with the domestic abuse incident, Allsup said.
