Officer drove off road after medical emergency, police say

A Springdale police officer was involved in a single-vehicle wreck Wednesday after apparently having a medical emergency, according to a news release from the Springdale Police Department.
Mark Smith, a 15-year veteran of the department, drove off the road on Powell Street at about 2:34 p.m., the news release stated. He was going about 30 mph, according to the news release.
Smith was hospitalized at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale as of late Wednesday afternoon, but was conscious and alert, the news release stated.
