Decatur Man Sentenced To 30 Years For Sexual Assault

BENTONVILLE - A Decatur man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting two boys.

Donald Allen Palmer, 50, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of sexual assault in the first degree, a Class A felony, which is punishable with a prison sentence ranging from six to 30 years on each count.

The plea was under an agreement his attorney, Deputy Public Defender Tiffany Fields, reached with Deputy Prosecutor Bonnie Bridges.

A mother reported in February 2012 that she allowed her 11-year-old son to spend the night with Palmer, according to court documents. Decatur police then learned that a 7-year-old boy had accused Palmer of fondling him.

Both boys were interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County where they gave details of being abused by Palmer.

Circuit Judge Brad Karren accepted the plea agreement and Palmer’s guilty pleas.

Palmer was sentenced to 30 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction. He must also abide by a suspended sentence agreement for 15 years after his release from prison.

Palmer will be required to register as a sex offender. He must also participate in the prison’s sex offender treatment program.

He was ordered not to have any contact with either of the boys. Palmer also was ordered not to have unsupervised contact with any minors.

Palmer must pay $2,120 in court-associated costs.
