HOW WE SEE IT: Constables Want Cash; Just Say ‘No’

“What we’ve got here is... failure to communicate.” — Captain, Road Prison 36, as played by actor Strother Martin in the 1967 film “Cool Hand Luke. One sheriff’s “inclusion” is apparently a constable’s “funding.” Meanwhile, Benton County’s Quorum Court is left to sort out the details. Sam Reyna, the duly elected constable of Benton County Township 3, is asking county government to provide $21,500 a year ($4,300 each) to the county’s five constables for, well, being constables. This would be an increase in county spending, since constables have not been funded.
