Police Arrest Man In Connection With Home Invasion

— Police arrested a third man in connection with an armed home invasion earlier this year.

Thomas Cline, 29, of 19958 Arkansas 295 in Huntsville faces felony charges in connection with aggravated assault and residential burglary.

In January, police arrested Eugene C. Wimberly, 27, and Julius Walter Watson, 42, both of 1853 Dean St. Apt. C in connection with felony aggravated residential burglary, terroristic threatening, aggravated robbery, theft of property and engaging in violent group activity.

Police went to 985 N. Lewis Ave. at 10 p.m. on Jan. 6 for a burglary report.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Justin Evans told police Cline knocked on his door and asked for his roommate, Andrew Day. The roommate wasn’t home, according to the report, and Cline left. About two minutes later, two different men entered the home and pointed a gun at Evans. They ordered Evans to lie down and took $7 from his wallet, according to the report.

The men reportedly took numerous items from the apartment and forced Evans from room to room with a gun to his head. They asked Evans where the “weed and money were,” according to the report, but Evans said there wasn’t any. One of the men threatened to shoot Evans in the leg if he didn’t give them drugs and money. Police said they destroyed the apartment as they searched for and collected items.

Evans said Cline bought marijuana from Day several times before, according to an arrest warrant.

During an interview with police, Cline said he tried to buy marijuana from Watson and Wimberly on Jan. 6. They said they didn’t have any, according to the report, so Cline said he would buy some from Day.

Watson told Cline they would all go to Day’s apartment and take the marijuana without paying. Watson said they would rob the residence, depending on how many people were home, according to the report.

Cline told police he went along with it because he was afraid they would hurt him if he didn’t, according to the report.

He was in the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond Saturday.

Watson was also being held on the listed charges, along with felony possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of possession of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $25,000. Wimberly wasn’t listed as an inmate.
