Chili supper, auction benefits Cox family

Friends and family of the late Keith Cox are invited to attend a chili supper and pie auction to help Cox’s wife, Sandra, pay his medical bills at 6 p.m. Saturday at the National Guard Armory, 705 W.

Pridemore Drive in Lincoln. Cox spent 32 days in critical care at a St. Louis hospital before his death on Dec. 27. Guests are asked to bring a pie or cake to be auctioned off. Guests can purchase chili and a drink for a $5 donation. Cemetery group to host meeting

The Benton County Cemetery Preservation Group will host its annual meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at 306 N.W. Second St. in Bentonville. Members and residents who are interested in the group’s work are invited to attend.

Jesuit Society inducts Shaw

Cynthia Shaw of Fort Smith was inducted into the student chapter of the Jesuit Honor Society Alpha Sigma Nu on Feb. 3.

Induction into Alpha Sigma Nu is the highest honor a student at a Jesuit university can earn. Students are chosen based on service, loyalty and scholarship.

Shaw is a student at Creighton University Graduate School.

Academy students

earn singing honors

Jade Espina and Aspen Knight- both voice students at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith Academy of the Arts - earned second and third places, respectively, at the spring conference for the Arkansas chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

Espina, 16, is the daughter of Dario Espina and Shala Klutts. She is a student at Northside High School in Fort Smith.

Knight, 16, is the daughter of Shawntell Knight and is a student at Van Buren High School.

Local students

receive scholarships

Four local students recently received scholarships to study at North Arkansas College in Harrison.

Emily Powers ofHarrison has been awarded the Presidential Scholarship to attend the school in the fall. Powers, a senior at Bergman High School, is the daughter of Eugene and Donita Powers.

Makaila Riddle of Harrison also earned a Presidential Scholarship.

Riddle, a senior at Harrison High School, is the daughter of Russell and Jennifer Shorb.

Whitney Gray, a student at Valley Springs High School, has received an ACT Scholarship to study at North Arkansas College. She is the daughter of Adam and Brandie Walter and Roy and Crystal Gray.

Kristin Hurst of Harrison also earned an ACT Scholarship fromthe college. She is the daughter of Bruce and Kim Hurst.
