About Constables
The office of constable is provided for in the state’s 1874 Constitution. Constables are law enforcement officers elected by townships within each Arkansas county. The office carries no salary. Arkansas law sets out minimum training requirements for constables to allow them access to the Arkansas Crime Information Center and to carry a firearm. The law also requires constables to wear specified uniforms and drive marked vehicles. The law also says “the county may pay reasonable expenses associated with the requirements of this section.”
