Mayor Seeks Trail Construction
Temporary Sales Tax Would Pay For System Startup
Posted: March 4, 2013 at 5 a.m.
Lori Stransky of Springdale walks her dog, Callie, along the trail at J.B. Hunt Park on Sunday in Springdale. Mayor Doug Sprouse is proposing that a portion of the 0.5 percent state sales tax approved in November be used to build trails in the city.
The city needs to move beyond the Razorback Greenway construction to building its own trail system, said Mayor Doug Sprouse.

Springdale is way behind the other cities in trail and park construction. It has the fewest trail miles and per capita park acreage (even with the 2 new parks) of the big 4. If Springdale is to become a place where people want to live, it needs to invest in both of these. But they are going to need a better plan than this to catch up. If you want to invest $300-400k in trails and spend $315k in salaries for the trail crew they aren't going to have many supplies to work with.

The Shame about all of this is that Mayor Sprouse has been in office for over 4 years and this is just now something we need to get done. He should have been working on this for a while. This is the perfect example of what is wrong with Springdale they don't do anything till the last minute. Always hoping someone else will do it for them. There is ZERO forward thinking or planning some of the planning people have been in their position way to long. Oh they like to think they are doing good because the rulers of the puppet goverment tell them they are great and the mayor and his staff believe it.

I have said it before and I will say it again, this mayor doesn't have a clue. The only thing he knows is what he is told by his little band of friends at city hall. They tell him how great he is so they can reap the benefits. It doesn't have anything to do with the improvement of the city it has everything to do with the improvements of their benefits. They all could care less about the city.

How about a trail from Har-Bar High School to Lake Elmdale and then around part of the lake. Ark Game & Fish would give approval for the land use I would think.
