NLR SHAKES OFF RUST
It took North Little Rock two minutes to shake off the rust and the Bryant Hornets on Friday night.
Thomas Alexander scored nine of his game-high 23 points in the first quarter and the top-ranked Charging Wildcats cruised to an 82-44 quarterfinal victory over the Hornets (20-10) in the Class 7A state tournament at Fayetteville High School. North Little Rock (26-1) had been idle for a week and was held to a free throw for the first two minutes.
GREENLAND RALLIES
A fourth-quarter rally kept Greenland’s quest for a second consecutive state championship alive. The Lady Pirates battled back from a 12-point deficit over the game’s final six minutes, then had to sweat out a last-second heave to hold on for a 55-53 victory over Mountain View on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A girls state tournament.
