Farewell to a great paper

If a developer were to attempt to level one of the great buildings of history, say, Faneuil Hall in Boston, or one of the bridges on the Seine or one of the colleges of the University of Oxford, the New York Times would smother the site with reporters, editorialize against such vandalism and generate a public outcry.
