Storytellers

asked to speak

“Speak for Yourself,” Fayetteville’s new community open mic storytelling experience, will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. July 19 at the Fayetteville Underground.

The format is simple: No paper, no poems, no songs … just a story in the teller’s own words.

Storytellers will sign up at the beginning of the night and be drawn at random to tell a 3-5 minute true story from their life. After the stories, Sound Affects, a musical improv group that uses music, song and dance, will do a long-form improvisational performance loosely based on the stories. The show is free.

This new series is co-produced by The Artist’s Laboratory Theatre and the Big Picture House and has been seen in many places including a giant sheet fort, a bookstore, at Block Street Block Party and in art galleries.
