COLLEGE BASEBALL Walker hired as Wichita State assistant

Brian Walker is following Todd Butler from Arkansas to Wichita State.

Butler, who was hired as the Shockers’ head baseball coach after eight seasons as Arkansas’ hitting coach and recruiting coordinator, has added Walker to his staff as a full-time assistant coach, Wichita State announced Thursday.

Walker was a volunteer assistant with the Razorbacks the past three years. He served as third base coach during games and worked with catchers. He played catcher for the Razorbacks and professionally with the Arkansas Travelers when he was in the Los Angeles Angels organization.

Walker’s responsibilities at Wichita State will include recruiting, hitting, catching, assisting with pitching and coaching third base.

“I know that he understands the system which we will bring to our Shocker players,” Butler said in a news release. “Brian is a fantastic coach and person on and off the field.”

Walker played three seasons at Arkansas (2005-2007), including 145 starts. He batted. 260 with 26 home runs and 98 RBI. He earned a kinesiology degree from Arkansas in 2010.
