Susan Terry Borne

Where I live: I live in Little Rock’s Hillcrest neighborhood with my husband, Robin. We have an English cottage-style house that was built in the 1920s by George Burden. Mr. Burden lived in the house and built several of the homes on our street, as well as the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs.

Occupation: I am director of development for The Nature Conservancy in Arkansas, the world’s leading conservation organization that works to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. It’s my pleasure to steward relationships with our donors and supporters.

My favorite space is: Our home has many special features of the English cottage style, but my favorite is the inglenook fireplace in the living room.

Why? It’s the feature that draws the most comments from friends and visitors. In addition to the wooden bench and “comfy stuffed vintage chair” in the inglenook, we love to display birthday and special holiday cards along the mantel among our children’s early artwork.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Living in an old house presents many challenges, but I can’t think of anything I would change in our living room.
