6 art museums honor beloved Memphis artist

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A well-known Memphis artist is being featured this summer in "The Summer of Cloar," a set of exhibits in six museums and galleries including the Brooks.

The Memphis Daily News reports the unique collaboration began to form about a year ago as some facilities already had plans to commemorate the centennial of Carroll Cloar's birth.

The exhibitions of Cloar's work also include a set of his drawings that are being featured at the Sam and Beverly Ross Gallery at Christian Brothers University.

In addition, the Art Museum at the University of Memphis will feature an "In His Studio: Carroll Cloar" exhibition that includes photographs taken of Cloar's studio in Memphis following his death in 1993.
