Don’t hate game, hate the Player

Golf legend Gary Player will pose nude for ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue.

Player is 77.

The issue, one of the magazine’s most popular, shows athletes nude in different poses.

Player, who won nine major titles and is considered one of the best golfers ever, will be the seventh golfer to appear in the magazine.

The South African-born Player, who earned the nickname Mr.

Fitness in the 1950s, has always been in good shape. He is said to have logged more than 15 million miles during his career, traveling around the world to play in tournaments.

Two years ago, Player told the Wall Street Journal he does 1,000 situps and pushups every morning in addition to a vigorous cardiovascular routine.

“People said weight training was detrimental to golfers,” Player said. “I was squatting 325 pounds the night before I won [the] U.S.

Open in 1965.”

Also featured in this year’s Body Issue are Colin Kaepernick (25), Kenneth Faried (23), Swin Cash (33), Agnieszka Radwanska (24), Sydney Leroux (23) and Joffrey Lupul (29).

Chipper and Crash

Chipper Jones is having his number retired … by the Durham Bulls.

Jones played 70 games for the Bulls in 1992, then a Class A minor league affiliate with the Atlanta Braves, where he hit .277 with 4 home runs and 31 RBI. Despite being remembered as a great third baseman, Jones played shortstop at Durham.

Chipper’s No. 10 uniform will be hanging next to the retired No. 8 of Kevin Costner’s character, Crash Davis, from the movie Bull Durham.

The ceremony will take place Aug. 20.
