Girl’s alcohol level was a lethal 0.37%

Autopsy results show a 15-year-old Madison County girl died in April of acute alcohol intoxication, the Madison County sheriff’s office said in a news release Thursday.

Andrea Carreno of Huntsville died April 28 at a residence in Alabam, according to the sheriff ’s office. The cause of her death was unknown until the conclusion of an investigation by the state Crime Laboratory.

Toxicology results showed Carreno had a blood-alcohol content of 0.37 percent, but no other drugs were detected, according a news release from Lt. Clay Rowland.

Carreno attended a party at the Alabam residence of two men the sheriff’s office identified as Cordell Lee Ashby, 21, and Michael Alan Brockelsby, 24. Ashby was arrested May 1 and released on a $1,675 bond. Brockelsby wasarrested May 6 and released on a $1,750 bond.

The men each were charged with two counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and with obstructing governmental operations, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives believe the men provided Carreno and another girl with alcohol during the party. Additional charges were filed because of false statements the men gave to cover up the underage drinking at the home, which prolonged the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Bill Allred, deputy prosecuting attorney in Madison County, said Carreno voluntarily drank the alcohol.

A trial is set for Sept. 12 in Madison County District Court.
