Branchwood Well Installation Begins Friday

BELLA VISTA — Crews will install new well equipment at Branchwood Golf Course today.

The work, being done by Huston’s Pump Service of Anderson, Mo., should take two to three business days. Once the equipment is installed, the pump station will be serviced, allowing the well to be up and running by the end of next week, said Casey Crittenden, Property Owners Association’s golf maintenance manager, according to a news release.

The course’s well pipe was pulled in May. The association originally hired Huston’s, formerly known as Pumps and Water Systems, to pull the nearly 30-year-old well when it stopped working in June 2011.

Basic maintenance determined the well pump that provided water to the course’s irrigation system failed and needed to be pulled and repaired. When Huston’s Pump Service was unsuccessful removing the well, they concluded the well had caved in or was obstructed, Crittenden said.

Although the well pipe and motor likely weighed between 25,000 and 28,000 pounds, the blocked well pipe restricted the rig’s ability to pull at capacity. Huston’s recently updated its equipment — allowing the rig to pull a heavier capacity — and agreed to attempt at pulling the well pipe at no cost to the association if unsuccessful, according to the release.

It's anticipated the association will no longer need to drill a new well. That will reduce a bulk of the cost. It's estimated to cost between $50,000 and $55,000 to repair the well and make it functional, Crittenden said.
