Police Say Man Beat Girlfriend

FAYETTEVILLE — Police arrested a 53-year-old man after they said he beat his girlfriend with a two-by-four board.

Gregory Kenneth Roane, 53, of 1504 N. Oakland Ave. faces charges of felony aggravated assault, third-degree domestic battery, first-degree terroristic threatening and obstruction of governmental operations.

Officers were called to Roane’s home just after 10:30 p.m. Monday for a report of a disturbance, according to an arrest report. Police said Roane answered the door and then retreated to a back bedroom, ignoring officers’ commands to come out.

Police said they found a woman crying in another bedroom. She was on the floor between a bed and a wall. The woman said she couldn’t get up because Roane hit her several times with a two-by-four and punched her several times in the arm, police said.

According to the report, Roane was upset about money.

Police said he threatened to beat the woman more severely when he’s released from jail.

Roane was being held Tuesday in the Washington County Detention Center on $7,500 bond.
