West Virginia transfer Miles to enroll at UA

Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson added West Virginia forward transfer Keaton Miles to the program when Miles announced he planned to enroll at Arkansas July 1 to begin classes and play basketball for the Hogs.

In accordance with NCAA rules, Miles will have to sit out the 2013-2014 season before gaining eligibility in fall of 2014.

Miles, 6-7, 207 pounds, made an official to Fayetteville last weekend with his parents and younger brother and sister.

“I feel very, very comfortable and there was a family atmosphere,” Miles said. “It’s a great fit for me.”

Miles signed with the Mountaineers in November of 2010 out of Dallas Lincoln High school, where he averaged 18 points and 13 rebounds as a senior and was rated the No. 87 prospect in the nation by Van Coleman, the National Director of Basketball for scouting for Hot-100Hoops.com.

He started 30 of 32 games as a freshman, utilized primarily for his defensive skills, but expected to see an increase in offensive output last season after averaging 1.6 points and 1.6 rebounds. Instead, started 2 of 29 games, averaging 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds, and decided to look elsewhere to finish his college career, realizing his skill-set wasn’t suited for West Virginia’s motion offense

“I thought it was perfect fit from the coaches to the style of play to the atmosphere and all of the support,” Miles said of Arkansas.

He said he let Anderson know of his intentions Sunday night. Miles said he embraces the program’s vision for a national championship.

“They have the same goals and don’t mind working hard for it,” Miles said. “I just liked the support that everybody showed when I went on my visit.”

Coleman said Miles’ skills will fit well in Anderson’s offensive and defensive style of play.

“Keaton is a long and lanky wing with the ability to score off the dribble in the lane or can stop and pop the pull-up inside the arc,” Coleman said.
