The 48th annual Daisy National BB Gun Championships will be Thursday through July 2 at the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers.

Five-meter competition is planned for 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, while 10-meter shooters will compete July 1-2.

Open practice will be 10 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday.

The championships will also host a coaches’ clinic, awards presentations and tours of the Daisy Museum. An Olympics-inspired opening ceremony is also planned Friday.

The annual Buffalo River Elk Festival is planned Friday and Saturday in Jasper. Guests will be able to apply for an elk hunting permit during the event.

Hunters must apply in person at the festival. Applications will be accepted from 1-5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Saturday at the Newton County Senior Center, 100 Clark St.

Arkansas residents with a current state hunting license are invited to apply. Three permits will be awarded at 5 p.m.

Saturday.

The festival also includes music, street dancing, a talent show, an elk calling contest, a fishing derby, a Dutch oven cooking contest and a pie contest. More information is available by calling (800) 670-7792 or (870) 446-2693.

Pack the Park set for Saving Grace

Saving Grace, a nonprofit that helps teens aging out of the foster care system, will benefit from a Pack the Park event Sunday at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale.

The nonprofit will get 50 percent of the proceeds from each $8 ticket if they sell 200 or more tickets to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals game against the Frisco RoughRiders. Tickets must be purchased through Saving Grace.

Tickets will be available at Saving Grace, 1229 W. Poplar St., or at the gate at Arvest Ballpark. Kids 12 and younger get a voucher for a free hot dog, chips and soda at the ballpark.
