The Fayetteville Public Library will host America’s Music: A Film History of Our Popular Music from Blues to Bluegrass to Broadway each Wednesday starting this Wednesday and running through July 31.

The series is designed to teach audiences about uniquely American musical genres. The Fayetteville library is one of 50 sites selected to host the series nationwide.

“America’s Music” was created by the Tribeca Film Institute, the American Library Association, Tribeca Flashpoint and the Society for American Music. Robert Cochran, chairman of American studies at the University of Arkansas and director of the Center for Arkansas and Regional Studies, will lead discussions after each film.

Each session will last from 6-7:30 p.m. The first session on Wednesday will focus on blues and gospel music, while the second session on July 3 will be about Broadway and Tin Pan Alley.

Other topics covered include swing jazz on July 10;

country and bluegrass on July 17; rock on July 24; and Latin rhythms on July 31.

America’s Music is part of the library’s Adult Summer Reading program. Admission is free, but registration is required. More information is available by calling (479) 856-7000 or online at faylib.org.
