Baxter County deputies arrest man for threatening officers, paramedic

A Mountain Home man was arrested Friday for threatening deputies and a paramedic, Baxter County sheriff’s office spokesman John F. Montgomery said in a news release.

Deputies responded to a call around 7:52 p.m. that Herman Wenzel, 76, was attempting to harm himself with a rifle, the release states.

When deputies arrived, the rifle had been fired, but Wenzel was uninjured, the release states. Deputies called for an ambulance, but Wenzel reportedly refused to go to the hospital.

Deputies told Wenzel he could go voluntarily to the hospital for an evaluation or could potentially face a custodial mental health detention, the report states.

Montgomery said Wenzel then threatened the deputies and paramedic saying, “I give you my word, I will hunt each one of you down and kill you before I kill myself. Your wife and kids are going to be without you.”

Wenzel was arrested on four counts of terroristic threatening in the first degree, Class D felonies, officials said. He was later released after posting a $25,000 bond, according to the release.
