Truck’s axle hits, kills 64-year-old

HOT SPRINGS - A 64-year-old woman died Friday morning after being struck by the rear axle of a Hiland Dairy tractor-trailer on Central Avenue.

Joyce Lynn Bonnett, 64, of Saratoga, Calif., was a passenger on a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling north. The motorcycle was driven by Donald L. Bonnett, 65, also of Saratoga, according to a preliminary accident report from the Arkansas State Police.

The motorcycle was in theright lane of Central Avenue when the 2010 International tractor-trailer, driven by Gregory Meyers, 50, of Hot Springs, attempted to change from the left lane into the right lane, according to the accident report.

Donald Bonnett attempted to avoid the truck and crashed into the curb on Central Avenue, throwing Joyce Lynn Bonnett off the motorcycle. She was then struck by the rear axle of the truck, the report said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Garland County coroner’s office.
