Art auction aids disabled

Spa Esthetiques hosted an Art Aid silent auction and open house in Bentonville May 4 benefiting Friendship Community Care, a statewide provider of services to children and adults with intellectual and/ or behavioral disabilities.

Sarah Keathley of Russellville, 2009 River Valley Artist of the Year, created an original painting during the evening which was part of the auction. Making the presentation to Friendship Community Care CEO Cindy Mahan was Nic Weathers, owner of Spa Esthetiques.

Live on Stage

helps students

Live on Stage in Northwest Arkansas presented four scholarships to Benton County students at the group’s May 5 show at the Arend Arts Center in Bentonville. Winners were David Graying of Bentonville High School, Jenna Suen of Bentonville High School, Beth Crisler of Ambassadors for Christ Academy and Emily Weeden of Rogers High School, winner of a $1,500 scholarship in honor of late Live on Stage board member Pauline Clark.

Making the presentation was Debbie Sorensen, Live on Stage scholarship chairwoman.

Rotary donates

to Open Avenues

On May 7, the Rogers Rotary Club presented Open Avenues with a check for $2,000. Jenny Harmon, Rogers Rotary Club president-elect, made the presentation to Allison McElroy, Open Avenues foundation director, and Brenda Neal, Open Avenues executive director. Open Avenues provides services to adults 16and older who have a diagnosed disability.

Altrusa gives to children

Altrusa of Springdale donated $1,100, profit from the recent Altrusa fashion show and tea, to the EOA Children’s House in Springdale. Susan Verser, Regina Chapman, Diane McCready, Kate Suarez, Dawn Sikkema, Chonda Ralston from the Children’s House, Kay Riazzi, Reanetta Edwards, Geri Alvis, Chris Armstrong and Alescha Massey were on hand for the presentation.

Food donations total 38,400 pounds

Tyson Foods Inc. and the League of United Latin American Citizens recently joined forces to donate 38,400 pounds of chicken to Three Square Food Bank in Las Vegas. The announcement of the donation was held at Caesar’s Palace Convention Center where LULAC held its 84th National Convention and Exposition.

The donation is part of a 1 million pound, three-year joint commitment by Tyson Foods and LULAC to fight hunger. In the past 13 years, Tyson Foods has donated more than 92 million pounds of protein in the United States.

Tyson Foods’ current “KNOW Hunger” campaign is focused on helping more people understand and join the effort to eliminate hunger in America. The company also partners with Share Our Strength, Lift Up America and Feeding America to raise awareness and help feed the hungry across the nation.
